It has an aspect ratio of 21:9, making it an ultra wide screen

Samsung's exhibition at the 2014 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show has two main highlights, in terms of display anyway: the 85-inch bendable UHD TV, and the 105-inch curved ultra wide television set. We will now be taking a look at the latter, since we have already covered the former, insofar as it was possible, given how few specs were actually revealed by the company.

The 105-inch ultra wide screen TV is said to be capable of displaying all types of content, from 4K to Full HD and below.

Since normal 4K content, 3840 x 2160 pixels, comes in the 16:9 aspect ratio, it can be assumed that this monitor has a native resolution of 5120 x 2160 pixels (21:9 aspect ratio).

Samsung has also included the auto depth enhancer technology, which adds depth to the picture, even more than the curvature of the screen itself. It's not 3D, but it's the next best thing.

“Given the tremendous media and industry reception for these new products, we are excited to bring our 105” Curved UHD TV and 85” Bendable UHD TV to consumers around the world,” said HS Kim, executive vice president of the visual display business at Samsung Electronics.

“People who are passionate about entertainment will have a whole new way to experience the content they love with these exciting new models that showcase exceptional design and UHD picture quality.”

The new Samsung UHD TV supports HEVC, HDMI 2.0, MHL 3.0 and HDCP 2.2 standards, as well as the Samsung UHD Evolution Kit, which houses the “brains” of the TV externally, in the One Connect Box.

The box can be switched later for a new one, since Samsung will keep improving the UHD Evolution Kit over time, enabling support for newer UHD standards and other technologies.

No idea exactly when sales of the Samsung U9500 Curved Ultra High Definition (UHD) TV will be launched, or what price it will have.
