You’d expect the guy who loves explosions so much and who makes movies about aliens and robots to have a bit more confidence than to walk out on an audience if his teleprompter malfunctions, but Michael Bay sure does like to surprise.

Present at CES 2014, now underway in Las Vegas to promote Samsung’s new curved HDTVs, the director walked on stage for a little Q&A, and promptly walked off when his answers didn’t appear correctly on the teleprompter.

You can see the entire thing in the video below.

To his credit, Bay did say that his “type” wasn’t right and he did say that he was going to try to “wing it.” Realizing he couldn’t do that and obviously very nervous, he apologized profusely and just walked off.

Even more to his credit, Bay took to his official blog to apologize for the mishap and explain what exactly went wrong.

“Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES... I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP's intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. I guess live shows aren't my thing,” he writes.

Well, at least he’s honest.
