LG refreshes last year’s model just in time for the consumer show

Convertibles have really taken the spotlight this year at CES and a lot of manufacturers have unveiled products to fit the description.

LG too doesn’t want to be left out of the party and it has brought the LG Tab Book2 to Las Vegas, which can be better categorized as a slider. This Windows 8 tablet comes bundled with a built-in QWERTY keyboard that neatly slides behind the screen when it’s not needed.

As you might have already guessed, the Tab Book2 is a refresh of the last year’s model which featured an Ivy Bridge processor and a 720p display. LG brings the new slider up to date with the current standard, so it has bundled the next-gen Tab Book with an Intel Haswell CPU and an IPS display featuring 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The keyboard of the new model apparently slides out slides out easily enough (by virtue of a button push), but the keyboard per se isn’t exactly spectacular, says Liliputing.

There’s reportedly no touchpad or palm rest, so the whole typing experience becomes quite awkward. Also, one should note that there are no dedicated Fn keys available.

There are actually two versions of the Tab Book 2, with the “flagship” model 11T740 being equipped with an Intel Core i5 processor and Windows 8.

While the tablet hybrid isn't the lightest we have seen in the bunch, it’s still a decent offering, weighing a total of 2.3 pounds / 1.04 kg (counting the keyboard too) and being 0.66 inches / 16.7 mm thick.

Meanwhile, the 11T540 comes equipped with an Atom processor, but is 0.52 inches / 3 mm lighter and weighs 2.05 pounds / 0.9 kg.

The models also have 4GB of RAM, 2 USB 3.0 ports, a micro USB port, full-sized HDMI and 120GB of internal storage.

Pricing and availability aren’t known at the moment, but a release headed for the second quarter of the year is the most likely.
