14 DAY TRIAL // Dell certainly took its time to come out with an Ultrabook design of its own, but with today’s launch of the XPS 13 the company finally has something to offer its clients searching for an ultra-portable computing solution.
Released into the same XPS line as the company’s previous 14z and 15z ultra-thin notebooks, the XPS 13 Ultrabook could be considered the successor of the Adamo line, but this time coming with a more compact form factor.
One of the most important design decisions that Dell took in the creation of the XPS 13 Ultrabook was to go with a narrow bezel display that enabled it to fit the 13.1-inch screen of the notebook in a 12-inch case.
It's this that enabled Dell to make the XPS 13 Ultrabook so compact, but the outfit hasn't stopped there and also fitted its creation with an aluminum and carbon fiber body measuring a quarter-inch at its thinnest point.
Moving to the insides of the XPS 13, this comes equipped with 4GB of system memory and users have the option of selecting between a Core i5 2467M and i7 2637M ULV processor, as well as between a 128GB or a 256GB SSD.
A full-size backlit chiclet keyboard is also included, together with a glass button touchpad, a built-in 6-cell battery which provides 8 hours of operation, a 1.3MP webcam, USB 3.0 and mini-Display connectivity.
The 13.3-inch WLED screen has a resolution of 1366x768, its brightness is rated at 300 nits, and packs edge-to-edge hardened Gorilla Glass.
"The XPS 13 is the culmination of an extensive design and development process focused on creating the best Ultrabook on the planet," said Jeff Clarke, vice chairman, Global Operations and End User Computing.
"It is specifically engineered to help both our consumer and commercial customers be more productive and connected in every way possible," concluded the company’s rep.
The XPS 13 will be available at the end of February in the United States through the company’s website and in select stores with prices starting at $999 (784 EUR).
