Acer’s Timeline notebook are getting thinner and lighter than ever before with the introduction of the new 14- and 15-inch Ultra models announced by the Taiwanese company during the CES 2012 fair, and which will become available in the first quarter of this year.

Both models are built using pretty much the same chassis design that measures no more than 20mm (0.79 inches), the thin profile making Acer present these new Timeline laptops as Ultrabooks.

Despite their new moniker, the Acer’s new Ultra notebooks still retain the optical drive of the previous Timeline laptops, and can be configured by their users to feature dedicated graphics.

The rest of the configuration includes Intel Core processors, solid state or hard drive storage, and support for Dolby Home Theater v4 surround sound.

Connectivity wise, Acer has added both a HDMI output and USB 3.0 ports to the new Timeline Ultras, while battery life is estimated at an impressive 8 hours.

Much like the Aspire S3 and the recently Aspire S5, the new Timeline notebook will also include the Acer Green Instant On technology that was designed in order to enable the system to resume from a suspend state in just a few seconds.

Sadly, these are all the specs that are available for now, but more info should be available soon as Acer plans to start shipping the 14- and 15-inch Timeline Ultras in the first quarter of this year. Pricing is also unknown at this point in time.

In addition to the new Timeline Ultra notebooks, Acer’s CES 2012 lineup also included the 15mm (0.59 inches) thick Aspire S5 which the company says it’s the world’s thinnest Ultrabook.

Acer will start shipping the Aspire S5 in the second quarter of 2012, so this will be presumably powered by Intel’s upcoming Ivy Bridge processors.
