Lots of new models, in any case

The first few days of CES have been pretty busy, so we're taking one company at a time and presenting you their full offerings for the most important yearly event of the CE industry. So, without further ado, it's about time to take a look at what JVC's got up its sleeve as far as displays go, and boy do they have a lot of models.

First of all, the company has announced a new line of LCD televisions powered by a JVC-developed next-generation high definition engine, Clear Motion Drive III. The new models are a part of the company's recently released Procision series and are powered by a Genessa 32-bit processor, which, according to JVC, seriously improves the quality of the displayed pictures.

The new JVC Procision LCD TV series is comprised of three 1080p models - the 42-inch LT-42X899, the 47-inch LT-47X899 and the 52-inch LT-52X899. Each of these models offer real 36-bit (12 bit x 3) image processing, feature Real Bit Driver bit extension technology, i-Clear Motion noise reduction and x.v.Color-enabled signal processing. Furthermore, beside the Clear Motion Drive III engine, the JVC Procision LCD TV line features a host of other technologies, as for example 120 frames per second frame rate and full HD 24/30p. There are nine video aspect modes, an ATSC/QAM tuning system with a Quick Start-up mode and an illuminated universal remote with direct input access. Also new is a re-designed on-screen display.

Each set includes a full complement of interfaces, namely three HDMI (v1.3) inputs - two with CEC support, two component inputs, two S-Video inputs, SPDIF input, AV output, PC input, RS-232C interface and an IR (IR receiver) interface. A USB PhotoViewer allows viewing of JPEG photos stored on USB memory.

JVC's new Procision LCD TVs will be available in early summer, but, unfortunately, pricing will be announced at that time as well.

Another important LCD-related announcement made by the company is the one related to its ultra-thin models, the LT-42SL89 and LT-46SL89, which are touted to be among the world's thinnest LCD TVs with built-in tuners (even though there are some similarly-sized models available from JVC's competitors as well).

JVC's new slim LCD TVs (1920 x 1080p resolution) feature a cabinet that across most of its width measures a mere 1.5 inches (39mm) deep, with a maximum depth of just 2.9-inches (74mm) at the panel's center. The design ensures that from nearly any angle, the sets present a super-slim appearance. The slim design was made possible through the use of a new JVC-developed slim panel backlight unit and power supply substrate, or chassis. JVC also developed a slimmer yet efficient power-supply substrate and employed a direct-mount configuration for it on the LCD panel backlight unit with a fan-less heat dissipation system to further reduce power consumption.

Unfortunately, these ultra-slim models from JVC will also hit the shelves solely in the summer of 2008, and the company has postponed any pricing-related information.

Another very interesting family of products from the Japanese company is the JVC P-Series, whose model come packed with a built-in, fully-functional iPod docking station. Users can play the various files stored in the iPod's memory at any given time, while the iPod can be controlled from the TV's remote, which includes a circular keypad with a control scheme that mimics the iPod's control wheel.

Besides the iPod dock and playback features, JVC's new P-Series LCD TVs are full featured high definition displays with a cabinet design that conveys the sets' focus on both audio and video performance. Each features a new universal remote with direct input access, a new on-screen menu system, a side-mounted USB photo viewer, and ATSC/QAM tuning.

Connections include three HDMI inputs, two component inputs, one S-video input, SPDIF input and an analog audio output for sending sound from an iPod or the TV through a home theater system. The sound package delivers 10 watts per channel to a pair of JVC's oblique cone speakers, while the company's new Omni Surround package with equalizer offers four listening modes - movie, music, news (for news or talk show programming) and mono (for simulated stereo from mono programming).

The JVC P-Series includes the 32-inch LT-32P679, 42-inch LT-42P789, 47-inch LT-47P789 and the 52-inch LT-52P789. The LT-32P679 is a 768p model, while the others offer 1080p resolution. The LT-32P679 and LT-42P789 are slated for a March release, with the other ones to follow shortly.

Last on our list of LCD-related announcements from JVC come the X-Series of LCD TVs, which feature a newly-designed cabinet with a thin, glossy bezel and bottom-firing speakers, a configuration that allows the devices to attain enhanced audio and video features. All three models feature full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and upconvert the signals to display a full 1080p, as well as three HDMI inputs that allow users to connect the devices to the latest HD signal sources. Other features include nine aspect modes, four picture modes, a new on-screen menu system with detailed graphics, a redesigned remote control and a side-access USB photo viewer.

Unfortunately, JVC has not provided any relevant information regarding this family of products, so we'll just have to wait and see when they'll actually arrive on the market.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
