Wireless Internet radio, as simple as it gets

There was a time in the past, not too many years ago, when the wireless Internet connectivity was looked at like some weird and dark science, spoken of with a deep, almost religious, reverence...today we scan our room for Wi-Fi signal and happen to find multiple networks and stride to guess or choose which one is ours.

[admark=1]Well, in the same way Internet connectivity exploded and brought this kind of media to a completely new level, Interned-based radio has become a part of our daily routine. (As a matter of fact, right as I am writing down these lines, I am listening to one of my fav 90's dance station I really enjoy when not listening to the metal ones.)

And since the Internet and Internet resources' development isn't exactly the thing one can actually control, the web-based radios' number is immense, offering all sorts of entertainment, from classical to goregrind, mainstream or golden oldies. Now, relax and think: how many times have you desperately browsed among hundreds of stations in search for your preferred ones whose shortcuts you had lost?

The Iona "Cube" form Cambridge Consultants comes to rid you of all the silly searches and proposes a new way to experience your Internet radio experience. The Cube, Iona's latest radio device is - as name clearly says - a cubic-shape player, with a speaker on one side. Based on a technology showcased at the CES 2007, the Iona Cube can be administered via Wi-Fi from your computer and you can set up no less than four presets for your fav radio stations online. All you have to to in order to start enjoying their broadcast is to take the Cube off from the Off position (meaning it seated on the side that's opposite to the speaker side) and have it sitting on one of the four remaining sides. Ah, and have your Wi-Fi open and running.

The Iona Cube will automatically tune in to the preset station. The neat thing is that you can add stickers and stuff to the corresponding side so it will be even easier to choose your station. The Cambridge Consultants' Iona Cube is still a prototype but since its looks and works are so very cool it's possible that we could see it on the shelves soon. One question remains: how will the Cube behave if we get drunk at a party and start rolling it like a dice, while having preset two deathmetal stations, a country music one and something with worship songs?

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
