The development team at CCP working on EVE Online believes that the first ten years of the MMO’s life have barely scratched the surface of possibilities linked to it and that player freedom will continue to be a focuses for future content.

Hilmar Petursson, the chief executive officer of the company, tells VG247 that, “We’ve brought millions of people along for the ride, and we hope to inspire a new decade of EVE Online, and to really explore this concept that has long since turned into more than just a computer game. I’ve been watching this evolve for a decade, but our best work is ahead of us.”

The executive believes that EVE Online has the potential to actually outlive its development team.

The team has already launched a complex retrospective video for the MMO and has big plans for future expansion packs that will enhance the overall quality of the game universe.

The developer adds, “It’s another example of giving power to players to help them imagine their own destiny, and of CCP trying to ‘step-off’ from controlling the story as much as possible. Retribution is a good example of how effective that is, so what you will see this year is certainly more of a focus on the core gameplay of EVE Online.”

CCP wants to make the game more accessible to new players, while making sure that it maintains a serious tone and encourages gamers to interact in the real world.

EVE Online is run on a single shard, with all players sharing the same game universe, and CCP says that it is constantly seeing more players logging in at the same time.

CCP is also working on Dust 514, a shooter that will arrive exclusively on the PlayStation 3 on May 14.

The game uses the same universe and will allow EVE Online to deliver missions and provide battle support.
