Pinnacle Software, as publisher, and Doublesix, as developer, are announcing that they plan to release an arcade shooter called Burn Zombie Burn in the first quarter of 2009 on the PlayStation Network.

The player will step into the shoes of Bruce, a normal man who is only looking to spend time with his girlfriend Daisy on a Saturday night, just as zombies decide to ruin their evening. The six levels the game offers are all inspired by classic American horror movies and the developers are trying to create a title which is addictive and always prods you to play another match.

The gameplay is centered around killing nameless zombies as fast as you can, knowing very well that at some point you will be overwhelmed by their number. You can shoot them, burn them or even blow them up. The big problem is that attacking the zombies with fire will make them run faster, which means that you could also catch fire. On the other hand, using explosives will increase the multiplayer score and will probably get you a high score; shooting the zombies is the best strategy but you won't get a high score doing only that.

Jim Mummery, who is the creative director at Doublesix, stated that “The idea for Burn Zombie Burn! was to make a game that captured what the studio is about: 'just one more go' game-play, a raucous sense of humour and an accessible learning curve coupled with traditional hardcore depth. Working with Pinnacle gives us the freedom to make the game we wanted to make, retain the Burn Zombie Burn! IP and meant that we always had a say in how the game was handled and represented”. If it sounds awfully familiar, it's because substituting a few names here and there will probably result in a statement related to Valve's Left 4 Dead.
