Bungie has talked a bit about the potential of a full-fledged Destiny sequel and emphasized that right now it wants to impress fans with the current multiplayer shooter experience before already drawing up plans for a Destiny 2.

Bungie has been working on Destiny for quite a few years and it highlighted several times that it wanted to deliver a 10-year experience with the multiplayer-only first-person shooter.

However, the studio has only announced that Destiny will deliver a top-notch story that's going to be enhanced via different DLC packs, two of which being covered by the Expansion Pass. The future, meanwhile, is anybody's guess.

However, don't expect Bungie to start working on a Destiny 2 right after the current game is released, at least according to the studio's David Dague.

He has talked with TrustedReviews and mentioned that the studio considers the right for a sequel as something that's got to be earned from players with a stellar first installment.

"If we earn that right, we would love to explore those possibilities. We have to earn the right to put a number on the box. Right now it is just Destiny," he says.

Achieving a great first game needs not just great gameplay, but also a thrilling story that leaves lots of possibilities for further iterations.

"We have to do our jobs to build a big, beautiful world that people do truly want to explore further. We have to capture their imaginations with a story that has them asking more questions as they get to the end of this first game."

Dague has even gone so far as to compare the first installment of Destiny with a first date with fans, one that could lead into something greater if they want it.

"Our sole focus is making sure this game is amazing, it is satisfying in and of itself. We could make this a daunting investment for gamers – and I’m not talking about a $60 investment, I’m talking about an emotional investment," he explains.

"This is kind of our first date – take a step into this world and play this game. If we told someone 'we’re going to be together for 10 years', then we are the overly attached developer."

Gamers had quite a few chances to interact with Destiny recently, as it was present at different gaming shows, like E3, but also had an alpha on the PS4. Right now, the Destiny beta is live on the PS3 and PS4 platforms and should go online on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 soon enough.
