The development team at Bungie has changed the weapon balance in its Destiny first-person shooter and not all members of the player community were happy with the tweaks made, with the studio now ready to offer details on the reasons for the way the title is evolving.

The developers claim that they have been following the philosophy that they have laid out in pre-launch blogs and podcasts and want to make sure that all the weapons included in the experience are effective and offer variety.

The team explains, "Even with these changes in full effect, all of those weapons are still dangerous. Now we send you back into that same arena to see how things change. Destiny is a game that we’re excited to support for a long time, so this will happen again. Fight like hell out there, but try not to get too stuck in your ways."

Bungie also says that it has reduced the efficiency of the Vex Mythoclast because the weapon was better than it should be in Player versus Player situations and that it will work on introducing a balanced damage output feature in a future update.

The Atheon encounter will also get fixes which make it impossible for gamers to know the boss out of the environment.

The developers add, "The encounter goal for Atheon is to act as a climax and the culmination of learning for a given Raid group. Part of that is making sure that each player in your group can perform every job as required. A change will take effect next week which fixes a bug with Atheon's target selection. When using its Timestream ability, Atheon will select 3 players at random, instead of choosing the three players furthest from it."

Destiny is a long-term project, updates will keep coming

Bungie also says that it plans to continue working on the network problems that are still affecting some gamers, with the team explaining that NEWT, PANTHER, COCONUT, GRAPE, GROUNDHOG, EEL, ELDERBERRY and IMPALA errors are on the decline while an increase has been seen in both BEE and BABOON KTOs.

Destiny will get access to a full expansion called The Dark Below on all platforms before the end of the year.

Both Bungie and publisher Activision are insisting that the universe they have created is set to exist for a ten-year period, with a range of new content delivered for this installment and a sequel apparently already in the works.
