The Halo: Reach beta stage was announced at the Microsoft X10 event as beginning on May 3 and now Bungie, the developer of the game set to conclude the Master Chief saga, is ready to offer some extra details related to the content players will be able to sample when they first log in.

Brian Jarrard, who is the lead community manager at Bungie, told The Lost Gamer that “It basically will represent a sub-section of almost every main portion of the game. For example, we'll have a couple of the new armor abilities that we've been talking about which are sort of the new version of equipment which have pretty immense implications for gameplay.”

Players who are taking part can also look forward to seeing a significant number of weapons, a subset of the maps, which will also feature in the final release and there will be new game modes that Bungie has not talked about until now. Halo: Reach is set to adopt a more team-based approach to combat and Bungie promises enhanced versions of all the weapons and equipment that fans of the universe have grown to love.

Jarrard made clear that his company was not ready to show off everything it planned for Halo; Reach, saying that “Of course we're going to hold back some stuff as we've got a long way to go until the fall and we want people to have some stuff to look forward to.” What probably beta players will not see is how the narrative elements of the game will unfold.

Those who are interested in getting into the Halo: Reach beta can only do so by using the keys offered when Halo 3: ODST is bought. There are still new copies of that game to be found in stores, although it was released in September 2009. Bungie has not said how long the Halo: Reach beta will be on.
