The development team at Bungie announces that it is working with Faceware Technologies in order to provide the complex motion capture that’s required for the characters of the upcoming Destiny social shooter.

The companies say that they will use a new marker-less three dimensional motion capture solution, which is designed to capture all the details on the actor’s face and then quickly transfer them to their digital counterparts.

He gives the team at Bungie a fast way to get an initial version of the character to which they can then add a variety of details, and more information on how it works can be obtained on the official site.

The Faceware technology has previously been used by Bungie on its Halo: Reach project.

Other development teams have also employed it to create titles like Republique, Grand Theft Auto III and V, NBA 2K14, Crysis 2 and 3.

Dave Lieber, the cinematics supervisor at the studio, explains that “Faceware has been used on Academy Award-winning movies and some of the highest grossing AAA videos games of all time. There's a reason for that: their products are production proven, easy to use, and indispensable to any team wanting to elevate the realism of their character performances without being locked into a particular capture pipeline, rig or art style.”

Pat Jandro, the lead facial animator at the company, says that Destiny will benefit from the use of the motion capture technology because it will create a more interesting world.

Pete Busch, vice president of product development at Faceware Technologies, adds, “Bungie has produced some truly amazing titles over the years. They are one of the best in the business. All of us at Faceware are honored that Bungie has chosen our products yet again. We can't wait to see what they create for Destiny.”

Bungie has not yet announced which actors it plans to work with for the new shooter.

Destiny is designed to take players to the future and asks them to explore a surprising galaxy as they try to protect the final human city left on Earth.

The game will use core shooter mechanics, but it will also introduce elements taken from the role playing and the massively multiplayer online genres.

Destiny will be launched on all markets on September 9 of this year and it will be playable on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft and current-gen consoles.
