With the advent of Windows Vista Microsoft introduced Solution Accelerators, resources accompanying the operating system designed to streamline common processes and tasks. The strategy continued with Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft is committed to the model even for its hypervisor. The latest Solution Accelerator offered as a free download is designed to ensure that customers are able to bulletproof their virtualized environments associated with Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. In this context, the Hyper-V Security Guide went live on the Microsoft Download Center at the end of the past month and is now up for grabs via this link.

“I'm happy to announce that the Solution Accelerators Team has just released the new Hyper-V Security Guide. This is a new member of a family of Virtualization Solution Accelerators - free tools and guidance from Microsoft to help you accelerate the planning and deployment of your virtualized infrastructure,” revealed a member of the Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit Team. “This guide provides methods and best practices to strengthen the security of computers running the Hyper-V role on Windows Server 2008.”

There are no less than four chapters to the guide, focused on Hardening Hyper-V, Delegating Virtual Machine Management, and Protecting Virtual Machines. Via the Solution Accelerator, customers running Hyper-V will be able to access guidance, which brings to center stage critical virtualization security issues. In the end, the guidance will serve to help customers kick the security level of virtualized Windows Server environments up a notch.

“Microsoft Hyper-V technology allows consolidation of workloads that are currently spread across multiple underutilized servers onto a smaller number of servers. This capability provides a way to reduce costs through lower hardware, energy, and management overhead while creating a more dynamic IT infrastructure,” the Redmond company explained.
