The world's fastest train has only recently been tested in Japan. This train, dubbed the bullet train, can reach the speed of 310 mph (that's 500 km/h), all thanks to its floating on air and having no business whatsoever with friction.

This new generation of means of locomotion, called L0 train, relies on powerful magnets to levitate and have its cars propelled. Hence its not needing any wheels.

As Inhabitat says, it all comes down to making the most of the principles of magnetic levitation and attraction.

The high-tech trains are scheduled to be made available to passengers in 2027. They will first be used to transport people from Tokyo to Nagoya.

The 218 miles (351 kilometers) distance between these two cities will be covered in just 40 minutes.

Well, if this is where the transportation industry is heading, there's one thing left to say: good luck finding a good excuse the next time you're late for work!
