Buffalo keeps on expanding its MiniStation line of external hard drives with new products and recently it has announced the MiniStation Extreme storage solution that is designed to offer both high-speed data transfers and a rugged design.

The MiniStation Extreme gets much of its speed from the inclusion of an USB 3.0 interface that is theoretically able to reach transfer speeds up to 5Gbps, making it ideal for storing and transferring data-intensive content.

In Buffalo's creation this can be paired together with either a 500GB or a 1TB hard drive which comes mounted inside a rugged chassis compliant with the U.S. Military Standard MIL-STD-810F 516.5 Procedure IV.

What this basically means is that the MiniStation Extreme can survive falls from up to an impressive 2.3m (7.5 feet) without harming the HDD housed inside.

In addition to the rugged design, data safety is also guaranteed by the 256-bit AES Full Disk Encryption (FDE) technology that Buffalo has embedded in this new MiniStation.

"The MiniStation Extreme is a prime example of Buffalo's commitment to product innovation,” said Paul Hudson, Sales Director for Northern Europe at Buffalo Technology.

“This latest addition to the MiniStation family is ideal for globetrotters who travel with their PCs and portable HDDs and demand a robust, fast and secure high performance portable storage device.

“The MiniStation Extreme can withstand free-fall drops of up to 2.3m making it the most robust MiniStation ever," continued Buffalo's Sales Director.

According to Buffalo, the new MiniStation Extreme will be available in piano-black, silver, or red, and comes fitted with an integrated USB cable, which snaps to the chassis for pack-and-go portability.

Sadly, no information regarding pricing or availability was disclosed by the Japanese company.
