It has the expected feature set, plus a couple of so-called perks

Buffalo has formally introduced a product that we almost mistook for the HD-PNT2.0U3-GBJ launched around this time last month.

The confusion is doubly easy to make because of the fact that the names of the items are almost identical, save for one letter.

It doesn't help that the product line is the same (MiniStation) and that the storage capacity is similar as well (2 TB).

That said, the newcomer is called HD-PCT2.0U3-GBJ (C instead of N) and costs around $380 / €310.

As a MiniStation drive, it is an external storage drive for when a laptop or a tablet just doesn't have enough storage capacity of its own.

It also works well as a backup solution, but user-initiated file copying is where the item will truly shine, thanks to the Buffalo Tools and TurboCopy.

Buffalo Tools is a suite of disk management software, while TurboCopy, as the name clearly suggests. Is a technology that optimizes file transfers.

Given that the USB 3.0 SuperSpeed interface is already fast on its own, this all implies that the latest addition to the MiniStation 3.0 portable HDD line is among the fastest out there.

And now we suppose we may as well talk about the design a bit. Since this is an external, portable even, storage device, there had to be some focus on looks.

That said, the conventional MiniStation chassis has a size of 144 x 77 x 20 mm (5.66 x 3.03 x 0.78 inches), and either a piano-black finish or pearl-white. Finally, the weight is 255 grams (0.49 pounds).

Buffalo will ship the newcomer at the end of the month (in Japan at least), pre-formatted with the FAT32+ file system. Re-formatting will be left to buyer discretion. In the meantime, those versed in the written language can find the product page here.
