Wasei Hirai says he very much likes his electric car

Of all the people one would think were ready and willing to buy a Nissan LEAF, a Buddhist priest would probably come last on the list. Provided that the person making one such list would include him on it in the first place, that is.

Interestingly enough, it would appear that a Buddhist priest is in fact the proud owner of an electric vehicle sporting Nissan's logo. What's more, he was among the first people to buy a LEAF.

The priest's name is Wasei Hirai, and he currently serves at a temple in Tokyo, Japan, Tree Hugger reports.

The temple might be about 750 years old, but this priest's take on the world is pretty much up to date with the latest developments.

Thus, Mr. Wasei Hirai is very much aware of the need to protect the environment, and says that people like him are somewhat responsible to make sure that other folks become aware of the importance of reducing pollution.

He is also quite optimistic, and says that, the way he sees things, a day when electric cars are the only types of vehicles people own and drive is not very far away.

As he puts it, “I believe that such a temple should take the initiative to propose messages about the environment and a way of living.”

“I think the day will come that whenever people think of a car, it will be an electric car,” the Buddhist priest goes on to argue.

Mr. Wasei Hirai details that, for the time being, he relies on electricity provided by the grid to get its Nissan LEAF back online after the car runs out of power.

However, he plans to further reduce the amount of pollution he is responsible for by installing some solar panels and using the electricity generated by them to recharge his car.

A video detailing how Mr. Wasei Hirai came to own a Nissan LEAF and his opinion about this environmentally friendly car is available below.
