The fact is that during the past several years so many games inspired in WW2 were released that even the expression "the world war two inspired game producers" became a banality.

Starting with Medal Of Honor and up to Day Of Defeat, passing through Blitzkrieg, Commandos and Battlefield:1942, the war-inspired games became common.

It's hard now to invent anything new in this area, especially if talking about FPS, but Brother In Arms really strives to bring something new.

And if discussing realism, I do not know how many game titles dedicated to WW2 thanked Spielberg for Saving Private Ryan and for Band of Brother, but probably Brother in Arms should do so. And this is because the game action takes place in Normandy and implies an American paratroops division, however consisting of 502 instead of the 506 in Band of Brother.

What's new with Brother in Arms? If so far the WW2-inspired FPS-s got us used to the perspective of a brave, highly qualified expert devoted to destroying the German war machinery, Brother in Arms promotes a team. The player can control up to six soldiers and is supposed to solve the missions spread throughout more than 20 levels.

The Gearbox team thought that realism makes a difference when dealing with a war game; and since the previous titles were not convincing enough they made some improvements. The health pack, kitt and any other similar concepts designed for improving survival throughout a level were demolished.

Moreover, Gearbox asked advice from a colonel in the US army and even spent some time in a US military base. The experience was so delightful that they might even get involved in shooting a documentary.

The game is to be officially released on March 17 and is hopefully worth the time and effort invested by the Gearbox team.
