The feral felines decided to take the role of baby Jesus, until December 25, by taking over his hay bed in a Christmas nativity scene built in Brooklyn. The group of cats found shelter in the symbolic holiday house and agreed to take advantage of it for the cold season.

Two sisters that live in Brooklyn have a tradition of building the nativity scene every year on the street near their house in Red Hook. The small wooden house shelters the statues of Virgin Marry and Joseph and represent the traditional scenes from Jesus' birth on Christmas.

This year, the holiday symbol has some new features, a big group of feral cats that steal the spotlight from the statues. The felines gathered inside the small establishment and are pictured lying in the hay at the holy scene and around the religious symbols.

The two sisters, Sue and Annette Amendola have been building the scene every year for almost a decade but they've never had this kind of “take over” until now. The statue of baby Jesus will be placed in the nativity scene on December 25 if they can get the cats to make some place for him.

The girls are not planning on kicking out the cats from their new shelter, “people love it, but they really get a laugh out of the cats,” the sisters said according to DNA Info New York. They bring something special to the scene as no other establishments have this kind of attractions.

People fear that when the final piece of the scene will be placed on the hay bed on Christmas day, the cats will push the statue of baby Jesus down the hay bale and take his place.

Some may say the furry guests are atheists for taking over the holy scene, but they may also just be guardians of the religious statues and a bonus by making the place cuter. As a mutual benefit, the felines have a warmer place to spend the winter in, with lights and a comfy bed, and of course, the whole neighborhood's attention.
