Marion Cotillard would be a good choice to play Nico

Charles Cecil, the creator of the Broken Sword series, says that the adventure game franchise might get the movie treatment after he finishes work on the fifth game in the series and if the conditions are right.

He tells Gamerzines that, “We are regularly approached by studios, but I am cautious. Any translation of the games would have to build on the brand rather than risk damaging it, and the history of films based on video games is really not good.”

The developer has not offered the name of any studio that’s interested in creating a movie version of Broken Sword.

In 2007, a rumor suggested that a film was already in development, but no information on it was offered after that and it is now probably abandoned.

Charles Cecil adds, “In light of this, I tend to warn them that I’d want to be an integral part of the writing and retain a large degree of creative control. The upshot is, they quite reasonably ask me to come up with a high level treatment, which is something I don’t have time to do.”

He says that one piece of news that would shift his attention to the movie quickly would be an announcement that Marion Cotillard agrees to play main character Nico.

At the moment, the developer is working on the first episode of The Serpent’s Curse, which is set to be launched on December 4 on the PC via digital distribution.

The fifth Broken Sword game will get a second episode in January 2014.

The story of the title is built around the Gnostic gospels and focuses on a seemingly worthless painting that seems to get all its owners killed.

Protagonists George and Nico once again meet by chance and need to work together to solve the mystery and save each other from certain death a few times in the process.
