Developer Double Fine Productions has announced that the second episode of Broken Age, its acclaimed adventure game, is locked and ready to set sail.

The news comes from an update on the game's Kickstarter page, where the developer makes the announcement in a rather excited tone. The dev reports that, following a full month of bug squashing, it finally has a build that looks "super duper polished and ready to roll."

This means that the build is going to go into testing this week, after which Double Fine will submit it for certification for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita gaming devices from Sony, and will start pressing discs for the Windows PC, Mac OS X and Linux retail editions announced in January.

The studio estimates this whole process to take around a month, enough time to get the iOS, Android and Ouya versions of Broken Age: Act 2 prepped and ready to hit the release date.

Double Fine Productions will announce the final release date for the adventure video game sometime next week, alongside some promotion efforts in the press. The developer also mentions that there will be a brand new episode of the Broken Age documentary coming out around the time of launch.

Finally, the belated conclusion to the epic is coming

In case you didn't know yet, Double Fine together with 2 Player Productions has put together a documentary series chronicling the making of Broken Age, which is available for the title's backers and will also be gradually made available free on YouTube.

For the time being, a handful of episodes have already been added, with more to come, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the reboot of the classic point-and-click adventure genre.

Double Fine's project marked the resurgence of a genre that has laid dormant for a few years, showing that there is still a market for adventure games with high production values, and managing to become hugely successful on Kickstarter, the world's premier crowdfunding platform.

The first episode of Broken Age has been out since late January, 2014, telling a coming-of-age story involving two very different characters that find themselves in very similar situations.

Now, it seems that we'll finally get to see the conclusion to their story, and follow their choices and evolution, and especially to see whether the game's second act will be able to sway the current wave of negative reviews on Steam.
