Broforce, the upcoming side-scrolling shooter from South African developer Free Lives and publisher Devolver Digital, has just received another big update via the Steam Early Access program, bringing new characters, mechanics, improvements, and much more.

Broforce has impressed straight since its announcement, promising to deliver a tongue-in-cheek side-scrolling shooter in the vein of classics like Metal Slug but with an over the top emphasis on the power of bros, freedom, and democracy. The fact that you can control famous movie and TV show action heroes also drew in plenty of nostalgic gamers.

The game hit the Steam Early Access program earlier this year and many fans started investing in the game and helping Free Lives with feedback about the current beta version of the game and how it can be improved ahead of its release later in the summer.

Now, a major update has just been rolled out to all owners of the game by the studio, bringing two brand new bros for players to control, based on the Universal Soldier and Time Cop. Check out the hilarious descriptions of the new heroes below, via the Steam group.

"Broniversal Soldier: Meet Broniversal Soldier and his army of zombie super soldiers. Resurrect friend and foe. Even cowering in your grave, you cannot hide from Democracy."

"Time Bro: Back in time from the year 2004, Time Bro has arrived with his totally balanced ability to stop time - and terror - right in its tracks."

Besides these two great heroes, players can finally ride mechanized terror units and wreak havoc across specific levels in the game, without worrying about their own health and causing as many explosions as possible.

Last but not least, the May update for Broforce also includes some changes to existing bros as well as bosses, not to mention improvements for the Mac version of the game.

"Thanks to your input, we've made some changes to Indiana Brones and the Mammoth Kopter boss in the city. This update will also (hopefully) fix a lot of the issues Mac users have been having with playing online as well as featuring an expanded online campaign."

Free Lives will continue updating the game in the following months, ahead of the official release of Broforce this summer.

As of right now, the patch is available only on Steam, as Free Lives has encountered a few problems with the update for those who bought the game off the Humble Store.

Until then, check out a hilarious video of the new Broforce update below.
