Singer gets into Brand’s head for a change

She may have had a rough couple of years, but Britney Spears is finally getting her life back on track and, by the looks of things, her body with it. If the singer surprised her fans with her appearance on David Letterman a while back, she more than managed to get tongues wagging with her new promo for the VMAs 2009, in which she stars next to British star Russell Brand, as MTV can confirm.

Britney is no stranger to controversy, so fans probably shouldn’t be that surprised that she plays a bit of the dumb blonde routine towards the end of the commercial. Neither should they be that shocked to see that she’s donning a two-piece swimsuit again because, after all, her great and toned-again body is among the many things she can be proud of accomplishing in recent months. Other than that, the promo is just as shamelessly fun and unconventional as that of last year, with the elephant in the room, as fans might remember.

“They may not have addressed the elephant in the room when they appeared together in a 2008 VMA promo, but this year, Britney Spears and repeat host Russell Brand are taking their relationship to the next level – they are the voices in each other’s heads. In a new promo for the Video Music Awards, which air live from New York City on September 13, Spears longs to be Brand’s date for the big night.” MTV writes of the recently released commercial.

Dressed in a stunning, white swimsuit and wearing an oversized black hat and large sunglasses, fans get to see Britney wondering whether Brand will invite her to the show again this year – not that she can’t score an invite on her own, of course. At the same time, Brand is thinking he may have offended Spears last time they met, since he’s known to have rougher manners in certain situations. “I hope I didn’t balls it up with her last time. Some of those things I said could have been construed as offensive. I hope she don’t think ill of me.” Brand says.

Later on, Brand realizes he can hear Britney’s voice in his head, in which case it would only make sense if she heard his too in her mind. “Britney, this is the voice of your mind. Go to Russell’s hotel room and abandon yourself. Give yourself to him, Britney. Sleep with Russell!” Brand says, hoping the singer can hear him. The camera zooms in on Britney’s confused face, as she’s struggling to make a decision. Clearly, she can hear Russell’s pleas.
