14 DAY TRIAL // Britney Spears’ most recent relationship, with attorney David Lucado, ended after 18 months after he was caught cheating on her with some random girl he’d picked up and video of it started making the rounds online. Lucado had received Britney’s dad’s blessing to date the pop star long before they even met.
The same goes for her previous boyfriend slash fiancé Jason Trawick, who also got clearing from Jamie to go out with his daughter. Jason did not cheat on Britney, but it is said he was the one who broke it off with her and broke her heart along the way.
So both boyfriends that Jamie approved for Britney turned out to be no good for her, for whatever reason. The pop star believes that having her dad pick her lovers isn’t such a good idea after all and wants to try her luck on her own, insiders familiar with the situation say for Radar Online.
Jamie Spears isn’t just an overprotective or super creepy dad
The issue with Jamie picking boyfriends for his daughter, in the sense of screening them for approval before anything romantic is set in motion, isn’t just him being overprotective or creepy. Since Britney’s highly mediated 2009 meltdown, which saw her come apart in front of the whole world, be admitted for psychiatric evaluation twice, and lose custody of her 2 kids with Kevin Federline, Jamie has been her conservator.
That means that he gets to have the final say in everything related to her, be it a new business venture, a new product, a new appearance, her music, her finances, and even decisions about her personal life.
No one knows if he actually gets to tell her who she should date, but it’s expected for him to screen potential boyfriends, to protect her from leeches / gold diggers / negative influences.
After all, Britney has a long history of bad romances
Left to her own devices, Britney is drawn to bad boy-types, and we all know how that ends for her. During the same publicized period of meltdown, she even went out with a paparazzo who had reportedly been hired by her manager at the time, and the two made a fortune off her, parading her around town for the paparazzi and generating tabloid headlines.
Her two marriages are also proof that she is, to say the least, very impulsive in love and would rather follow her heart than her head. Her first marriage was annulled within hours after she eloped, while her second (to Federline) ended only after he cheated on her and spent a huge chunk of her money. Allegedly, of course.
Still, Britney wants to be allowed choices
Even so, Britney’s situation is such (she has no friends, just people who work for her and family) that she simply wants to go out with someone she met on her own, not some guy her father picked out of a lineup, figuratively speaking of course.
“It’s really a truly lonely life. Britney has told Jamie she won’t be going out with anyone he suggests. It’s really a sad situation,” the insider reveals. What’s even sadder, as per the spy, is that she will never get her wish.
“Jamie understands where Britney is coming from, but she can’t just go out on a date with some random stranger. She doesn’t realize that there are many opportunists out there, and everything Jamie has done to protect Britney. He just wants her to be happy,” the tipster reveals.
