In what has been labeled an almost unprecedented move, Britney Spears has announced on her official site that her next single would be “Radar,” off her 2007 album “Blackout.” In the same post, the star has also revealed the cover art that would accompany the track, but has failed to offer a reason as to her choice.

Music insiders claim that the procedure of re-issuing older tracks to attract attention on projects that are gathering dust on shelves is not uncommon, but few are the artists who actually do it when they have a new material out. For instance, it would have been understandable if Britney had released “Radar” if she did not have “Circus” out right now – in this context, and taking into account the ongoing tour, it makes little sense.

Nevertheless, Spears is perhaps trying to get the fans to pay attention to the other album as well, now that the Circus Tour is doing the job just nicely for her latest studio material, music insiders believe. Be that as it may, given that “Blackout” was more clubby and, some say, more fun than “Circus,” chances are “Radar” will be burning holes in the airwaves and causing a frenzy in clubs all around the world in almost no time. Sales for “Blackout” are also expected to pick up shortly after the release.

Speaking of sales and income, papers filed recently in court revealed that Britney Spears spends almost everything she makes, mostly on stuff like security, household staff, beauty treatments and living arrangements. In just 11 months last years, the star coughed up over $10 million on such things, with only a minor fraction of the amount (almost insignificant, some say) going on presents or clothes for her two boys.

“From March to December Brit blew $447,633.69 on security alone. Six months of household repairs and maintenance ran her $49,387.22. Britney also spent $625,000 to pay Kevin Federline’s lawyers, as ordered by the courts. In the docs, the payments are referred to as ‘Federline Fees.’ K-Fed ain’t doin’ too bad either – from March to December, Britney kicked over $178,818.00 in child support payments. Grand total expenses for Brit between Feb. and December – $10,116,678.23.” TMZ was writing the other day, after it got a hold of the court papers in question.
