Singer’s lawyer take first steps to have the conservatorship brought to an end

In 2008, following a series of very public and troubling developments in Britney Spears’ personal life, her father Jamie stepped in and was named conservator over Britney the person and her business affairs, amidst fears that she had surrounded herself by leeches and people who did not care for her personal safety and health. TMZ has now learned that Britney has lawyered up to put an end to the conservatorship and that preliminary hearings in this sense are already taking place.

Granted, ending the conservatorship is not as easy as just wanting it and then it’s done, TMZ informs. Jamie may be in charge but it’s a court appointed judge that gets to decide whether the star is able to handle her own business, or whether, on the contrary, she is likely to run herself into financial ruin, as well as destroy her life and that of her two children. For the time being, though, Britney’s representatives are looking into ending the conservatorship over her as a person.

“Sources tells us lawyers and others connected with the case have been meeting... evaluating Britney’s progress with the goal of ending the conservatorship. As we first reported, Britney’s dad, Jamie Spears, wanted to wait until her tour ended before making the big move, but it’s something he wants for his daughter only when the time is right. We know there have been several lengthy meetings recently between the lawyers and the court commissioner in the commissioner’s chambers,” TMZ informs.

At this moment, Britney Spears is not responsible for anything in her life, from handling her own finances (in the sense of the ability to hire the accountants and advisors she wishes to hire) to the management of her own house and even personal expenses, not to mention her music career. With the ending of the conservatorship over Britney as a person, the singer will regain some of the freedom she had before 2008, although she will not yet be in charge of her finances.

“Jamie and the lawyers will not make the decision to end the conservatorship. They will weigh in, but the person with all the influence is the ‘capacity expert’ – a psychiatrist who was appointed by the court. The capacity expert will do a thorough evaluation and submit it to the commissioner. We’re told one of the fears Jamie has... Sam Lutfi, a guy Jamie thinks is still a threat to Britney if she allows him back in her life. He’s got that right,” TMZ further says. Lutfi was Britney’s agent, friend and advisor in all matters before the conservatorship was set up and Jamie Spears put in charge.
