After making herself known as a blond bombshell, Britney switches to a darker shade

More and more female celebrities are ditching the blond locks in favor of darker shades, indicating that 2014 is going to be the year that brunettes have all the fun.

After Kim Kardashian decided to ditch her highlights, pop singer Britney Spears has also made steps in the same direction. Looking almost unrecognizable, the singer has posted a photo of her new 'do on her Twitter account.

Looking into a vanity mirror and holding up a bottle of her recent perfume, Britney flashes a somewhat sad smile. The picture is captioned “Spice up Valentine's Day by getting ‘Naughty & Nice’ ((pun intended)) ;),” and it aims to kick off a promotional campaign for the fragrances.

Britney is currently still in Vegas where she has her own residency show, “Piece of Me,” which, to be perfectly honest, isn't moving any mountains in terms of reviews and audiences. Still, Britney is not giving up and decided to fill her bank account by releasing some fragrances on the market.

Though not as big as she used to be, Britney is still moving products and selling them, judging by the amount of money the guardians of her estate make. As you might remember, Britney's father was put in charge of her entire fortune and it's been reported that he cleared half a million dollars last year for his effort.

The brunette look is beginning to be quite a trend in the first half of 2014. Among the celebrities who chose to dye their hair darker are Courtney Stodden, Amber Heard, Selma Blair and “The Wolf of Wall Street” actress Margot Robbie.

Of course, this will not make trend-setter Kim Kardashian happy, after she confessed that the reason she decided to go brunette, was to set herself apart from all the blonds in Hollywood today. Sadly, this is what happens when you're a style icon – people tend to copy you, but it's not like Kim has a trademark on the hair color.

As for Britney, what's your opinion? Do we give her the thumbs up or thumbs down?
