Britney Spears is coming under heavy fire online right now for an interview she did late last week with the Spanish-speaking “Despierta America” show, in which she said that what she liked most about the Latinos was the fact that they looked like the type of boy your family would disprove of.

The interview is embedded above, with Britney’s allegedly racist remark coming at the minute 1:21, after the interviewer asked her what she liked the most about the Latin culture.

“I think it’s very [hot]. I've always loved Latinos. They make me think of a bad-boy type that your father wouldn't let you go out with,” she said.

This generalization was too much for certain viewers, who immediately went online to vent against Britney and accuse her of being too uneducated on the topic, or simply just offensive on purpose.

To make matters even worse, when asked if she spoke any Spanish, Britney launched into what HuffPo describes as “three seconds of percussive gibberish” that left even the interviewer somewhat bewildered. A “no” would have sufficed.

However, as these things go, Britney’s fans have already rushed to her defense, saying people should just lay off her and stop reading too much into every little thing she does or says.

What do you think? Was Britney being racist in her answer or is she simply misunderstood?
