Star says she’s doing it for the fans, not the media

Britney Spears recently kicked off the Australian leg of her Circus Tour and, despite heavy anticipation for it, it did not get off to a brilliant start. Many fans walked out on the first show, disappointed that she was lip-synching, while Australian officials asked for a boycott of sorts of the singer, saying a “disclaimer” should have come stamped on the tickets. Britney herself is just now speaking out, the BBC informs.

In a statement released to the media, Spears says – in more or less these terms – that she couldn’t care less about what the media has to comment on her performance because she did not choose to go to Australia for the media. On the contrary, she chose to take her tour there too because she knows she has fans there who never got the chance to see her live on stage – and for them she did so.

“I hear there is a lot of controversy in the media about my show. Some reporters have said they love it and some don’t. I came to Australia for my fans!” Britney says of the recent lip-synching controversy. Concert promoter Paul Dainty also added a few days ago that Britney had taken the negative reviews to heart. “I’m so angry. We can take heat if there’s something wrong and people can review shows badly – that’s something you have to live with – but to say people stormed out of the show was an absolute fabrication. Britney is aware of all this and she’s extremely upset by it – she’s a human being.” Dainty said.

As we also reported, it would seem that many fans were extremely upset about Britney lip-synching her way through her biggest hits, when advertising made it seem like they would see her live. At the same time, several local media outlets took to thrashing Spears for not even being able to put on a decent dance routine, which, they say, would have justified her miming the words to her songs.

Nevertheless, most fans were happy with the show. In the aftermath of the so-called scandal, thousands of Australian fans took to Spears’ official webpage to voice their support, calling her show nothing short of a wonderful “spectacle,” an incendiary and “brilliant” performance that was well worth the money (some tickets sold for as much as $1,400).
