A new report issued by renewable energy project developer RES Group says that, on December 25, 2012, wind farms across the United Kingdom produced enough energy to cook some 14 million turkeys. Or 2 million mince pies, or 111 million batches of Brussels sprouts.

If you think that this clean energy output is impressive, wait till you hear about how many turkeys wind farms in the United Kingdom cooked the year before, i.e. in 2011.

According to Business Green, Christmas Day in 2011 was especially windy, hence the fact that British wind turbines had a combined green energy output that would have sufficed to provide the nation with 17 million roast turkeys.

The RES Group says that, although wind speeds are likely to fall this year's Christmas, farms harvesting this green energy source are likely to still have a fairly impressive energy output.

“Why dream of a white Christmas when you can have a green one instead? These statistics underline the importance of boosting home-grown renewable energy sources to bridge the generation gap,” says David Handley, RES chief economist.

“British wind will play a vital role this Christmas, insulating our homes from over dependence on foreign gas imports and helping keep costs lower as gas prices rise,” he adds.
