When it comes to upping the energy efficiency of one's household, most people list financial incentives as their main drive.

Apparently, money issues also lead to a British couple's decision to push for a “carbon-neutral” lifestyle, which translated into considerable savings.

“I was a hovercraft engineer and there didn’t seem like there was a future in it at that time. We had three children, and I thought things would be quite bleak with all of us and little money,” Dan Fish explains.

Interestingly enough, they later on became aware of issues such as climate change and global warming, and environmental protection also become of utmost importance to them.

According to Daily Mail, Dan and Jane have thus far spent whopping amounts of money on green-oriented technologies, which include a solar hot water system, a wood burner and solar panels.

However, they efforts have been anything but futile: thanks to the aforementioned technologies, the couple now spends just ₤3 ($4.8 / €3.68) on electricity on a monthly basis.

Moreover, Dan and Jane own a solar-powered car and quite enjoy growing their own fruits and vegetables. Because of this, there are many who refer to them as “Britain's Greenest Couple.”
