She is, without a doubt, the biggest selling artist of last year while also the most surprising star ever to emerge from a televised talent competition. Despite being able to bring down record after record with her debut album, “I Dreamed a Dream,” and having critics and fans in the palm of her hand, she will not be getting any recognition at this year’s Brit Awards, the Daily Mail has learned.

Well-placed sources are telling the British tabloid that this is not something personal against Susan Boyle herself, but rather an initiative against what she stands for. Since the Brit Awards are made possible with the help of a panel of 1,000+ industry and media people, they are using their influence to attack Simon Cowell and what they believe is an injustice done by him to the recording industry, the Mail claims.

“If Susan Boyle dreamed of adding a Brit Award to her list of achievements, she is in for a disappointment. The Daily Mail has learned she will be snubbed when nominations for the annual music industry prizes are revealed tonight. Insiders say the omission is a veiled attack on Cowell, who guided the 48-year-old Scottish spinster from Britain’s Got Talent to her astonishing success,” the Mail writes. That is to say, they’re attacking Susan Boyle to hurt Simon Cowell.

“She’s not even shortlisted for Best Female, even though that’s usually the weakest category. And it’s not just an attack on Susan. It also shows how Simon Cowell is regarded by many in the record business,” one source reveals. Another says the snub also has to do with Boyle’s “uncool” image. “The problem for the Brits is they’re supposed to be a celebration of British music – and cool. And, whatever anyone thinks of Susan Boyle, she certainly isn’t cool,” the other tipster reveals.

Of course, such a snub would be outrageous – and even that’s putting it mildly, since what Susan Boyle did for the British music industry with her 2009 album is more than any other artist has done recently with his/her materials, another unnamed source explains. Then again, turning a completely blind eye to one of the greatest voices of our times would certainly be something not even the Brit Awards would have the courage to do, others can only hope.
