The Brit Awards 2011 were last night and, though some British media outlets would describe the awards ceremony as a lackluster, boring, inarticulate affair, it did have its moments. Like Take That’s performance of “Kidz.”

The reunited boy/man-band took to the stage in full military garb, accompanied by dancers disguised as police officers, complete with riot shields marked with TT for the name of the band.

As the video below will show, there was stern dancing, there was live singing and there was definitely a lot of fun to be had for the members of the band.

Towards the end of the song, included on their latest album, the chart-topping “Progress,” the dancers stripped off the military clothes and started dancing at will, as a shower of flower petals fell from above.

It was the most liberating and well done moment of the night, Take That fans are saying on dedicated forums – and yet again confirmation that the band stands to defy the age-old notion of “boyband,” having long been elevated to the status of “artists.”

As such, it’s a shame that Take That didn’t win Best Album, though fans believe they deserved. Then again, it’s not like they went home empty-handed: Take That won Best British Group.

If that’s not consolation enough, they can always find some sort of solace in knowing that their “Progress” was the best opener in the UK in over a decade, as we also noted a while back.

“Progress, the band’s new album, has sold almost 520,000 copies – more than the rest of the album charts top ten put together, according to the Official Charts Company,” the Daily Mail reported in November, shortly after the release of the album.

“The last album to exceed sales of 500,000 copies was Oasis’s Be Here Now, which sold 663,000 in its first chart week in 1997,” the publication also said.
