Bristol Palin is only 18 and, like most other girls her age, got pregnant by accident. Also like many other girls her age, she chose to keep the baby. What’s different about Palin is that she is relatively famous, her mother being politician Sarah Palin, which has virtually turned Bristol into the postergirl for teen pregnancy. This is precisely what she’s trying to capitalize on with the latest cover and interview for People magazine, as MSNBC points out.

According to MSNBC’s The Scoop, People made a very rash choice when it picked Palin for its cover: first of all, she is not the woman to move items and, secondly, she seems to be contradicting herself at every step she takes and word she utters. For instance, it is being said, while she poses for the cover in her graduation gown and with her child in her arms, saying that teens would be more cautions if they knew the effects of their actions, she also says in the same interview that the baby is the best that ever happened to her.

“The week’s most curious cover goes to People – Bristol Palin? In cap and gown? Really? If it ran when she was making the talk-show rounds a few weeks back, that would be one thing. Now it just feels out of context. Moreover, the Palins don’t sell well on the newsstand, which makes this coverage feel strange.” MSNBC writes. At the same time, while the purpose of Palin’s media round is nothing short of noble – that of bringing down the rate of teen pregnancy, it does raise the question of how it will affect baby Tripp when he grows up, it is further being said.

Bristol Palin and “Heroes” star Hayden Panattiere recently joined forces to raise awareness on the same topic of teen pregnancy. Then too, Bristol made it clear to the audience that, had she another choice, she would choose to live her life responsibly and to the fullest because having a baby at such a young age, while clearly a blessing, is also a curse in that it robs young girls of their best years. Panattiere, on the other hand, chose to play it cool at the meeting, stressing only that young people today should be responsible.

“You’re going to do what you’re going to do, but at the end of the day, it’s okay as long as you educate yourself, as long as you’re safe, as long as you’re smart. It’s a topic that’s not talked about enough. This is just a human thing. It’s natural, it’s what everyone does, but most people don’t realize how serious things are until it directly impacts them and their lives or the lives of the people around them, and I think this is one of those things where as a young female you go, ‘Oh, it’ll never happen to me, oh, it happens to people, but it’ll never happen to me,’ and then it does happen.” Panattiere said at the meeting.
