It isn't looking good

Movies based on games don't have a very impressive track record. Most of the times, they just venture far away from the actual action it the game and the script writers use the characters in weird ways. In most cases, it's just an excuse for them not to develop other characters. A Max Payne movie is going to be released soon, and all our fingers are crossed that it will be worth having paid to see it. But that's already old news since the next game up for a debut on the big screen is God of War. It already has a script and it has just been announced that Brett Ratner would be the director of this movie.

He has acquired not a very good reputation with movies like Rush Hour 3 or X-Men: The Last Stand but he manifested interest in this new title. He also stated that the movie is still in early development and waiting for the green light from the production studio, but it really has potential. With a bit of luck, the casting should begin this winter and production will start in spring.

For those of you who don't know, God of War was a highly successful PlayStation 2 game, being named one of the best ever developed for that platform. It let the player control Kratos, a Spartan captain who had been deceived by the Greek god of war, Ares, and sought revenge on him. It was a great game with a pretty interesting story, but, in the end, its specialty was the big battles in which the player took part.

In my opinion, it doesn't really sound like this movie will have much of a plot, but we will just have to wait and see. Also, movie studios don't actually have to revive games in order to make blockbuster titles, they should focus on original ideas and develop them, not just copy existing ones.
