Samsung has just released a memory card that is capable of a storage capacity which has never been seen until now in the case of mobile technology. This microSD card is capable of storing up to 8 GB of data.

An SD memory card of this capacity has been available for some time now, but the novelty of this launching is brought by the fact that now we are talking about microSD cards. What differentiates the MicroSD cards from the normal SD ones is their extremely reduced sizes. They actually have only a quarter of the SD cards size, which makes them excellent to use in the case of smaller devices that still need high capacity for data storage, such as mobile phones. Furthermore, microSD cards are compatible with the SD ones as to allow multimedia files to be transferred from mobile phones to other devices.

This new microSD card brings a great amount of advantages, as it makes it possible for phone users to store up to 2,000 MP3 music files, 4,000 digital photos and even five DVD movies. This opens the door to a wide range of possibilities and broadens the limits of mobile phone use for obtaining and organizing information and also for enjoying high quality entertainment.

Furthermore, the microSD card that has been released by Samsung is capable of a read speed of 16 MB per second and can write information with a speed of up to 6 MB per second. This exceeds by far the capabilities offered by other such products that are currently available on the market.

A market research has revealed that the memory card market will grow in the future with a 10 percent annual rate, whereas the demand for high storage capacity, such as the 8 GB one, will grow at a 2.6 rate every year. Even more, they are predicting that, by the year 2010, the 8 GB memory card will be the standard technology used for mobile phone data storage.
