Looking at other television series, it becomes clear that it’s difficult to keep even a good series going until the very end and wrap it up with a satisfying, truly memorable episode. “Breaking Bad” is one of those notable exceptions.

We’ll start this by saying that this article doesn’t include any spoilers.

Looking at the more recent “Dexter” series finale that got fans and critics alike enraged at the way writers and producers chose to end the serial killer’s story, you would have been justified to think even for a second that the brilliant chemistry teacher turned meth dealer Walter White was probably in for the same fate.

Of course, here is another instance where the two shows are different, even if they still have in common the fact that they’re dealing with the drama of an antihero.

Not only did the series finale of “Breaking Bad” not disappoint, but early reactions describe it as the most satisfying, funny, and smart ending in recent years, beating even the “Sopranos.”

All loose ends were tied up in typical “Breaking Bad” fashion, with humor and unexpected, totally gruesome twists. Fans were not disappointed.

“I’m really surprised by how I feel about the finale. I expected to be sad. But I’m giddy — thrilled that the best drama in television history didn’t blow it at the end,” The Wrap writes.

Perhaps the worst part about the final episode was how much ad time AMC crammed into it, the same publication notes. Then again, considering that “Breaking Bad” went from great to excellent in terms of ratings and critical reception, we shouldn’t even feign surprise anymore at this point.

“The episode plays like a roller coaster, and the uphill rise takes about 45 minutes. Then it’s all downhill for the next 30,” Deadline notes, comparing “Breaking Bad” with “The Sopranos” and naming the former the best of the two.

While the series finale aired, fans were on reddit and social media, exchanging impressions in real time. Many of them were sad at the realization there will never be another new episode of the series, but the majority agreed that having their favorite show end on such a high note totally made it worth it.
