With the increase in illegal substances sold in the United States, a bunch of drug dealers from Albuquerque, New Mexico, decided to get creative and branded their methamphetamine by turning it blue.

Their method bears a striking resemblance to the one used by the fictional character Walter White from the viral TV series “Breaking Bad” that opted to deal with a different and more unique illegal substance. The blue colored version of the Albuquerque dealers' drug almost perfectly resembles the one in the Television series and attracted agents' attention.

Authorities reported a worrying increase of blue meth in the New Mexico area and the tinted drug is an effective way of branding distributors and advertising their products. According to Kevin Abar, assistant special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New Mexico, there is also a red-tinted version of the drug on the market as well, notes The Independent.

Despite common belief, the tinted meth in not so different from the other kinds of methamphethamine sold in the area, the level of purity is still the same, a maximum of 80 – 90 per cent. The only addition is the fact that the substance is handled by second-hand dealers that cut it with special chemicals and make it blue, or red, depending on the “brand.”

In fact, by cutting it with that particular color giving substance, the blue meth is only even more dangerous. Yes, it is actually more attractive, but the effects are even worse than those of the normal, uncolored drug.

Because of this specific branding method, people may find it even more attractive, and become curious enough to try it. The drug being highly addictive, it is enough to use it a few times in order to get hooked on it indefinitely.

But the blue branding meth dealers are not the only ones whose creativity was triggered by the “Breaking Bad” series, as last year a group of five men were arrested on suspicion of trafficking crystal meth with a staggering 99 per cent purity produced in Korea, almost reaching to the level of the fictional drug dealer White.
