Bravely Default has finally landed in North America this month, making the Nintendo 3DS exclusive title’s international release complete.

The fantasy role-playing game marks the first entry in a new franchise, a feat that Square Enix has not done in quite a while. Judging by the game’s sales up to now, it looks like the series is here to stay, and the dev team is already working on a sequel.

The sequel will be titled Bravely Second, and an interactive teaser video is available inside Bravely Default, following the end credits, hinting at a more action-oriented experience that will introduce new characters to the cast.

In an interview with Siliconera, Bravely series Producer Tomoya Asano has revealed a few details regarding the upcoming installment in the Bravely series.

“Bravely Second will still follow the turn-based battle system. The improvements made to the basic system were implemented in Bravely Default: For the Sequel. Thanks to this, player reaction has been very positive post-launch, so many of these systems should follow through to Bravely Second as well,” he shared.

According to him, the Bravely series is focused more on following a certain storyline than on exploration, this being the main reason why enemies are not visible on the world map, and instead an adjustable random encounter rate is utilized to determine engagements.

“Bravely Second expands Luxendarc, but it might be slightly different than an RPG with an expansive world you can explore. Rather, it will basically be like Bravely Default in that it will be driven by the story. Thought processes change depending on the goal of the game, and with Bravely, the thought process is that characters are there for the gameplay and the world is there for the characters,” Asano stated.

Bravely Second has not yet had an official release announced for western markets, and Nintendo America stated that there were “no plans at the moment” to release the game in the West, but considering the game’s success and more adult target audience, an international release is likely to take place sooner or later.
