Despite fans’ hopes that “The Crow” will not be remade, it’s happening. Bradley Copper is in negotiations for the role that was made famous by Brandon Lee, and he’s believed to start shooting once he’s done with “The Hangover 2.”

Mark Wahlberg was previously linked to the remake, but, for reasons unknown, he’s dropped out of negotiations, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Producers are now looking at Cooper as a possible replacement, especially since he proved he can do solid action just as good as Mark, with the recent “The A-Team” remake.

“As soon as he’s over his next Hangover, Bradley Cooper may be taking the lead in a remake of The Crow,” EW reports.

Nothing is set in stone at the moment, but it’s looking good for Cooper.

“A source close to the production confirms the actor is in negotiations to star in the film, which will be released by Relativity Media. Mark Wahlberg was previously in talks for the part of the murdered man who comes back as an avenging angel, but that eventually fell through,” EW says.

A director is also on board the remake and, judging by his previous accomplishments, the remake does stand good chances of getting off the ground – and perhaps even pleasing fans of the original.

“Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, Intacto) signed on to the project last week, and Relativity and producing partner Apaches Entertainment are aiming to start production this fall,” EW notes.

At the time word got out that Wahlberg was being considered for the part made iconic by the late Lee, speculation had it that Relativity Media was looking into taking the remake into a different direction than the original, lest it would enrage fans.

No word yet on whether that’s still the plan or if the new film (with Cooper, presumably) will mirror the 1994 original, with only some slight differences and tweaks here and there.
