New info on classes and setting has been unveiled

The first news on Borderlands Online emerged last month, when Shanda Games, a Chinese operator of online games, announced the upcoming launch of the game.

Just like Call of Duty Online, this one will be exclusively available in China and will be tailored for this particular market. At that time, Shanda Games did not announce when Borderlands Online would be released in China.

However, the folks over at MMOCulture have just learned that Borderlands Online technical test is set to begin on January 23 and will last until January 27.

Along with the news of the upcoming technical test, the cited source has also uncovered some interesting info on some of the classes present in Borderlands Online.

It looks like there will be 4 starting classes in Borderlands Online from which players will be able to choose from, such as Soldier, Hunter, Siren and Berserker. These classes are gender-bound, meaning that players won’t be able to choose to make female Siren characters or Berserker.

Each of these classes will have its own unique set of powers and abilities at their disposal. For example, the Soldier will be able to summon a mobile turret that attacks and covers players, while the Hunter has a flying drone that marks and weakens the target, which in return takes more damage.

The Siren may call forth a small flame bird that slowly burns the target, while Berserker's roar enables this class to regenerate HP faster than normal, as well as greater attack speed.

The game will not be "open world," but will allow players to queue up for instances

Borderlands Online will feature more than 2,000 guns that players will be able to loot and upgrade. There will be five categories of weapons (Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Shotgun, Submachine Gun and Pistol), one for each class, while Pistols will be common to all classes.

Unlike the original Borderlands game, the Online version will not be “open world,” but instead players queue up to instances from each of the three towns available during the technical test. There are six instances for each town, which puts the total number to 18.

The PvP aspect will be available during the 5-day testing period with two modes, like Last Man Standing and Team vs Team.

In Borderlands Online players will also be able to craft gear, gather materials, as well as add and improve weaponry bonuses. Guilds will be available too, along with a solid quest system.
