There are a lot of factors to consider

As many years before it, 2009 has a lot of high-quality video games scheduled to appear at the end of it, during the fall season, just in time for them to fill up the store shelves and to attract the eyes of anyone who wants to buy them as a present for the winter holidays, which will be just around the corner.

Out of all the games scheduled to appear, Gearbox's Borderlands is one of the more interesting ones, as it isn't a sequel to an already established franchise and it has a distinct art style, being based on cel-shading instead of adopting other trends like brown all around and bald marines.

In order to get the uniqueness of the game across to the end-user, the studio's Mikey Neumann has talked with Shacknews. In the interview he reveals that, although everyone at the company would love for a demo to be released, in order for players to see what they will be getting for their hard earned money, there are a lot of factors that need to be considered.

“We talk about a demo every day,” Neumann says. “We would love to do a demo. There's obviously factors there. If and when we do one, I don't know if it'd be pre-launch or post-launch, because ...there's a lot of factors there.”

“We would love to promise a demo, we can't quite yet, we just want to get the game done,” he adds. “That's always the hardest thing for developers to do – you never quite know how the time's going to work out. We're doing really well, but I can't promise it.”

With such a flood of sequels scheduled to appear at the same time, perhaps a demo released early on would be the best move for Gearbox, in order for fans to see how the game will feel and look. Until then though, we can settle our cel-shaded thirst with screenshots and videos.
