Borderlands 2 is more than three months from launch, but the development team at Gearbox working on the shooter is keen to point out that it has fixed most of the issues that the fan base associated with the first game in the series while also expanding the offered customization options.

Matt Charles, who is a producer working on Borderlands 2 at Gearbox, told the official PlayStation Blog while answering questions from fans that, “We’re entering the phase of development right now where we are focusing on framerate and stability, so it’s too early for me to give any final numbers, but you will see an improvement over the first game.”

He also told gamers that the team is also trying to allow second players to log into local splitscreen modes with a separate PlayStation Network identity in order to get Trophies, but he has not yet managed to do that and that it has fixed problems that plagued the voice communication in the first game.

Charles also said, “You’ll be able to choose from a large variety of swappable heads/hairstyles/headgear in addition to choosing from hundreds of unique color and decal themes, and both together offer a ton of options for customization. As for skills, each class offers a bigger quantity and more interesting variety of skills to choose from in the skill trees.”

Borderlands 2 takes place five years after the events of the first game and players will be able to select from four new classes before launching on an adventure to destroy Handsome Jack and his Hyperior Corporation while also meeting the characters of the original game.

At the moment Borderlands 2 is set to arrive on September 18 in North America and three days later in Europe on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 from Sony.
