After the tremendous success Bookeen had with its latest Cybook item, the company prepares a new series of eBook devices. The Cybook Gen3 is said to feature a 6-inch Vizplex e-paper display with 166 dots per inch, which should provide a much better contrast, in order to be easily readable in direct sunlight, as Bookeen claims.

As the e-paper is often criticized for being not only dim but also quite slow to refresh, E Ink decided to release Vizplex, a new technology that increases the brightness by up to eight percent, compared to other products, and has an average switch speed cut from 1.2 seconds down to 740ms, which is great, especially since the top speed could reach even 260ms. So, the Bookeen fellows couldn't have done it better.

Eventually, the company confirmed the included Amazon's Mobipocket eBook format support, meaning every user will be free to buy and read DRM-protected books from the online retailer. Besides revealing a nicer design, the Gen3 can even work with the Linux, Mac and Windows PC, not to mention it can load data through any USB connection or through the removable SD card, that are not included in the package.

As for the eBook's battery, it is rated at more than 8000 page turns, and should last a month of frequent use, just in time for you to finish one of James Joyce's masterpieces.

The e-book devices come with one more improvement, namely the right screen size, so that the user doesn't get sore eyes from reading a couple of poems. There is also a better battery lifespan, the lighting and the weight are also major bonuses compared to other devices that offer TXT reading options, such as PDAs and bulky notebooks. Still, we're talking about Bookeen, so the recipe is even more successful.

Regarding the pricing and availability details, Bookeen announced a worldwide release of the eBook reader, starting this September, for about 350 bucks a pop!
