It turns out the glasses aren't a fashion accessory

Bono's sunglasses have become one of his trademarks, and he hasn't been seen without a pair in ages. It was previously thought that they were just a fashion accessory or something that he used to stand out from the crowd.

People have been intrigued but learned not to ask too many questions, since, after all, the man was a rock star and rock stars have to be quirky by definition, otherwise they become uninteresting after a time.

Bono hasn't been seen without sunglasses in 20 years, people always thought that they were just a fashion accessory

The U2 frontman always goes out with sunglasses that have an orange, blue or green tint, which is why some thought that he was using them for medical purposes. When asked, the singer dismissed the rumors that he wore them to boost his ego and claimed that he was bothered by the flash of paparazzi cameras.

At the time, he complained that the flashes hurt his eyes, causing his eyes to swell. And people left it at that.

The singer reveals he's been suffering from glaucoma for years, asks you to don't pity him

However, according to Contactmusic, Bono has recently opened up about the real reason he has been wearing glasses out in public for the better part of 20 years. While he was on the Graham Norton show, he revealed that “This is a good place to explain to people that I've had glaucoma for the last 20 years. I have good treatments and I am going to be fine... You're not going to get this out of your head now and you will be saying, ‘Ah, poor old blind Bono.’”

Clearly, the singer was embarrassed about his condition and didn't want people pitying him, which is why he chose to hide for such a long time, attributing the sunglasses to much more trivial reasons. With his admission also comes the fear that he is going to be pitied by people from now on, something which he made clear he does not appreciate.

His band, U2, has recently been in the news over a huge scandal involving their latest album “Songs of Innocence.” The album was distributed free to all iTunes users until October 15, and the announcement was made with much fanfare at the Apple Watch launch.

At the time, people were enthusiastic about being able to download the latest U2 album for free, but it soon became evident that Apple forcibly added the songs to everyone's iTunes account, taking up precious storage space. What's worse, the album could not be removed at first.

Apple remedied the situation, and in a recent Facebook video, Bono apologized to fans saying that the band was overzealous and a little bit insane, but that all they really wanted was to get their message across.
