Staff at the North Carolina Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores are pleased to announce that seven bonnethead shark pups born at this facility a few weeks ago, towards the middle of November, are healthy and active, and getting stronger every day.

The shark pups have not yet made their public debut, and currently live in a tank placed somewhere where visitors to the facility cannot see or disturb them.

However, odds are it will not be long until keepers at this aquarium schedule the shark pups' first public appearance.

According to Zoo Borns, bonnethead sharks are related to hammerheads. However, they are considerably smaller than the latter.

Thus, adult specimens belonging to this species have been documented to only grow to about 3 – 5 feet long (0.9 – 1.5 meters).

What's more, wildlife researchers say that they are surprisingly shy and that, unlike other sharks, are often seen swimming around in groups.

In case anyone was wondering, these sharks have such flat heads with eyes located toward the outer edges in order to be able to see in all possible directions.
