The Charlotte Bobcats may be going back to the team's original name, the “Charlotte Hornets.” According to USA Today, they have already taken steps in that direction.

NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver explains that for a name change to be considered by the League, it takes somewhere around a year and a half.

The team's owner, Michael Jordan, mentioned the name change in November so he might have filed the paperwork then.

The Hornets became the Bobcats in 2002, when the move to New Orleans took place. The team had a good run in its 14 seasons under the original name.

They made it into the playoffs seven times, as opposed to the one appearance they made as the Bobcats.

The New Orleans Hornets have also chosen a name change, going back to the “Pelicans.”
