Blue Coat Systems says it’s analyzing the recent claims made by Citizen Lab, according to which the company’s web monitoring products have been spotted in countries that are subject to US sanctions.

However, the company’s representatives note that they’ve never allowed the sale of their products to countries embargoed by the United States.

“We continue not to sell to embargoed countries and also do not allow our partners to sell our products to embargoed countries,” Blue Coat representatives told SC Magazine.

They’ve added, “Even when our products are unlawfully diverted to embargoed countries without our knowledge, we use various techniques to limit our products from receiving updates or support from our servers or support personnel.”

The company highlights the fact that it supports human rights, and it does not condone with the use of its products for surveillance purposes.
