Cyanide, the developer of Blood Bowl, is announcing one of the features of the upcoming game, the introduction of the Star Players, which are set to be engines of destruction that can turn around any game easily.

Four of them have been unveiled until now: Griff Oberwald is the Human Star Player; Varag Ghoul-Chewer is the Orc champion, Jordell Freshbreeze represents the the Elven claim to fame, while Grashnak Blackhoof is a full blooded Minotaur.

The idea behind Star Players is to emphasize the over of the top nature of Blood Bowl by introducing some players who are tough, quick and powerful enough to change the way a game is played. The strategy of a team that hires such a player (and they really require a lot of money) will be centered on them and the opposition will try to take them out as quickly as possible.

Blood Bowl, which was initially a pen and paper game created by the Games Workshop, is a mix between the rules and strategies of American football and the violence and characters of fantasy Warhammer. Gamers can choose their players, prepare tactics and create plays, getting ready to crush the opposition.

The big thing is that the variety of the races available, from Humans to Elves, Orcs, and Dwarfs, makes for a wide array of styles of play that you can experience. The game is set to offer a unique visual experience, with the looks faithful to the original way the Warhammer universe is portrayed and Cyanide is promising a wide variety of options related to game management.

Blood Bowl, which is quit a weird project for a studio best known for the Pro Cycling Manager cycling management series, should arrive in the second quarter of 2009 for the Xbox 360, the PC, the PlayStation Portable and the Nintendo DS.
